When the Cleveland Barons of the National Hockey League left the city, a new team was formed 22 years after. In 2000, the Columbus Blue Jackets played their first season after three years of preparations. Throughout the years, some of the NHL greats that have donned the Blue Jackets uniform are Rick Nash, Sergei Fedorov, Fredrik Modin and Rick Nash.

The current group of Blue Jackets is led by right wing Marian Gaborik, defenseman Jack Johnson, left wing Brandon Dubinsky, defenseman Adrian Aucoin, and goaltender Sergei Bobrovsky.
