The Miss America Pageant is a long-standing competition that awards scholarships to young women from the 50 states plus Washington, D.C., Puerto Rico, and the U.S. Virgin Islands. The winner of the national pageant is awarded the title of "Miss America" for one year. After many years in Las Vegas, the competition moved back to Atlantic City, New Jersey for the Miss America 2014 contest.
The current Miss America 2014 is Nina Davuluri, the former Miss New York 2013. She was crowned the winner on September 15, 2013 at the 87th pageant. She is the first Indian-American Miss America.
