Reno Barons

The Reno Barons are a professional indoor football team that began play in spring 2011. Based in Reno, Nevada, the Barons play their home games at the Reno Events Center.

Their name seems to be a play on Manfred von Richthofen, and a reference to the Reno Air Races in the nearby Reno Stead Airport.

Originally set to join the American Indoor Football Association in 2011, the AIFA lost too many teams to field a league that year, prompting two of the remaining three teams-- Reno and the Stockton Wolves-- to defect from the league, ensuring its demise. Reno and Stockton are playing a schedule comprising independent teams and each other, under the name "Western Indoor Football Association."

With only two weeks left in the 2011 season, the Reno Barons ceased operations. One of the investors in the beginning of the season backed out. The money from an agreement was brought in as a cushion for the team. As the season progressed, the team had to use that cushion. They missed two games, one of which was on the road at the Stockton Wolves. Chez Jennings, team owner, plans on bringing the team back next year stating that he already has sponsors lined up.
