When Art Modell became the majority owner of the Cleveland Browns in 1963, former owner and coach Paul Brown walked away. Three years later, he formed the Cincinnati Bengals and the look of his new team resembled that of the Browns. The franchise enjoyed much success in the 1980s when it won two AFC Championships in 1981 and 1988. However, they lost both Super Bowl trips to the San Francisco 49ers.
The 1990s were a period of great struggle for the team for their highly-touted draft picks did little to improve their fortunes. Yet, the Cincinnati Bengals are having a resurgence recently for they have made the NFL Playoffs for two straight years. This impressive run is led by quarterback Andy Dalton, wide receiver AJ Green and defensive player Geno Atkins. As the Bengals continually pursue its first NFL title, every game of theirs will bring a roar of excitement for those in attendance at Paul Brown Stadium.
