The Indiana Pacers was originally established in the American Basketball Association and became part of the National Basketball Association via the 1976 merger of the two leagues. During its ABA run, the franchise won three championships. However, the team had its own share of struggles on its first decade in the NBA. The slide would be halted in 1987 when Reggie Miller was drafted. During Miller's 18-year career, the Pacers were a force to reckon with. Players like Mark Jackson, Rik Smits, Antonio Davis, Chris Mullin and Sam Perkins brought back the Pacers to its ABA form.
However, the franchise went into a rebuilding process after Miller retired in 2005. But recently, they have proven to be one of the top dogs in the Eastern Conference thanks to a stingy defense and balance offense brought by Danny Granger, Roy Hibbert, Paul George, David West and George Hill. Waiting on the wings every game are role players D.J Augustin, Sam Young and Tyler Hansbrough. With a bruising roster that brings fear to all other NBA teams, the Indiana Pacers are on pace to finally take home its first NBA championship.
